Sample_Number 78: ALL: sample intended, Niskin did not fire. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Analysis methods: ----------------- Chlorophyll samples were filtered onto 25mm GF/F filters after collection, and immediately frozen and stored in a -80C freezer until analysis. All samples were returned to the Institute of Ocean Sciences and analyzed 4.5 weeks after the collection on a Turner Trilogy 7200-000 fluorometer, using methods described in Holm-Hansen et al (1965). Fluorescence readings taken before and after sample acidification were used to calculate chlorophyll and phaeopigment concentrations. For further details on methodology, see document QF2024-026_CHL*.xlsx Methodology sheet. NOTE: Flags and comments apply to chlorophyll values only. No flags or comments are assigned for Phaeo-Pigment values. Salinity samples were collected in 200 mL or 250mL type ll glass bottles with disposable nylon inserts and screw caps supplied by Ocean Scientific International Limited. They were analyzed in a temperature-controlled lab on a Guildline 8400B Salinometer standardized with IAPSO standard seawater 16-65 days after collection. For details see document QF2024-026SAL*.xlsx. Nutrient samples were collected in plastic tubes and quick frozen in aluminum blocks stored in a -20C freezer. For samples 400m and deeper a second set of samples are collected and stored cool for silicate analysis. All samples were returned to the Institute of Ocean Sciences and they were analyzed using an Astoria-Pacific Analyzer following methods described in IOS Nutrient Methods (1996) Barwell-Clarke and Whitney. For details including a duplicate analysis, see document QF2024-026nuts*.xlsx. Oxygen samples were analyzed at IOS in lab 1409 using an automated Winkler titration system (Metrohm Dosimat model 876, a UV light source and detector with a 365 nm filter controlled by LVO2_876 software designed and constructed by Scripps Institution of Oceanography) with modifications based on Carpenter (1965) and adhering to WOCE protocols (Culberson 1991). Transmissivity, Fluorescence and Oxygen:Dissolved:SBE data are nominal and unedited, except that some records were removed in editing temperature and salinity. During cast #99 the rosette hit the deck; a log entry indicates no damage was found and CTD data loo However, comparisons with bottles show that both conductivity channels were affected. The differences between CTD salinity channels differ from what the post-cruise calibration shows, so that something other than calibration drift affected salinity values. The secondary salinity was selected for both sections with no correction to events #1-99 and +0.0087 events #103-260. This correction does mean raising the secondary salinity by 0.0057 more than the post-cruise calibra but it is clear that something was going on beyond calibration drift. CTD Salinity values are considered less reliable than usual, so are reported with 3 decimal places o Dissolved oxygen recalibration was based on sampling during 2 casts using an offset found during a previous use. There was no indication of a change after cast #99. For details on the processing see the report: 2024-026_Processing_Report.doc. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- *CALIBRATION $TABLE: CORRECTED CHANNELS !
