The primary salinity was bad during part of this cast, so secondary channels were chosen for editing and archiving. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Data Processing Notes: ---------------------- Conductivity, transmissivity, pH, PAR and PAR:Reference data are nominal and mostly unedited except that some records were removed in editing temperature and salinity. NOTE: While the SBE fluorescence data are expressed in concentration units, they do not always compare well to extracted chlorophyll samples, particularly for casts far from shore. It is recommended that users check extracted chlorophyll values where available. The primary temperature and salinity channels were selected for most casts but due to noise in the primary salinity, the secondary channels were selected for casts #18 and #65. Pressure and depth were corrected by subtracting 0.2db/0.2m based on a deck test and post-cruise calibration. Primary salinity was corrected by subtracting 0.002psu based on the post-cruise calibration. This is slightly less than the bottle comparison suggests, but that was based on very few samples. Secondary salinity was corrected by subtracting 0.0034psu based on the difference from the primary channel during the 3 bottle stops used in the comparison, in order to bring the two channels into correspondence. Dissolved oxygen was corrected by multiplying all values by 1.055 based on the bottle comparison. This is higher than suggested by the post-cruise calibration, but it was based on many bottle samples and may reflect other sources of error such as response time errors. The SBE DO sensor has a fairly long response time so data accuracy is not as high when it is in motion as it is during stops for bottles. This will be especially true when vertical DO gradients are large. To get an estimate of the accuracy of the SBE DO data during downcasts (after recalibration) a rough comparison was made between downcast SBE Dissolved Oxygen and upcast titrated samples. Some of the difference will be due to incomplete flushing of Niskin bottles and imperfect matches in levels from the two data sets as well as errors in sample analysis/collection, so the following statement likely underestimates SBE DO accuracy.
