There was unusual small-scale noise in the salinity channel, particularly in the primary channel. This mostly disappears with metre-averaging, but the quality of salinity is considered lower than usual. Despite the jitter the primary data looked better overall than the secondary, so were selected for archiving. There were many sudden drops in descent rate from values up to 2m/s to 0m/s. This leads to shed wakes overwhelming the CTD and to a general reduction in data quality. NOTE: While the SBE fluorescence data are expressed in concentration units, they do not always compare well to extracted chlorophyll samples, particularly for casts far from shore. Salinity sampling was limited in quantity and quality, so recalibration was applied based on previous cruises and one that followed and used the same sensors. There was no dissolved oxygen sampling. Recalibration was applied based on other cruises that used the sensor and a post-cruise calibration from early 2024. The SBE DO sensor has a fairly long response time so data accuracy is not as high when it is in motion as it is during stops for bottles. This will be especially true when vertical DO gradients are large. With no dissolved oxygen sampling no estimate could be made of errors in SBE DO.
