Sampling System --------------- The seawater is drawn from a 20-cm x 56-cm standpipe, flush with the hull and located 4.5 metres below the water line, and pumped approximately 50 metres through a 5-cm stainless steel insulated pipe up to the main lab. Between the intake and the pump is a 24 x 24-cm stainless steel strainer (1/2-cm grid). The pump is a Moyno model 2L6 stainless steel progressive cavity pump with flow and pressure control. In the lab the seawater flows through an MSRC VDB-1 VORTEX debubbler and then into a SeaBird Model 45 Seacat thermosalinograph with a dedicated flow meter inline before the exhaust. A Wet Labs flow-through fluorometer is mounted and plumbed in parallel to the 45 Seacat thermosalinograph with a dedicated flow meter inline before the exhaust. Flow to the fluorometer can be stopped to enable cleaning. TSG Data Processing ------------------- There were many gaps on the TSG records. On August 25th there was a 1-hour section with no flow to either the fluorometer or the Thermosalinograph. On August 28th there were extensive sections with no flow to the thermosalinograph. Salinity was recalibrated based on comparisons with CTD salinity. Intake Temperature data compared well with CTD temperature. TSG fluorescence was lower than CTD fluorescence where the latter had low values, but close when fluorescence was higher; it agreed well with loop samples which mostly came from areas with relatively high chlorophyll levels.
