Despiking routines were run on channels that do not usually require this step, including PAR, transmissivity and dissolved oxygen channels. Conductivity, transmissivity and PAR data are nominal and mostly unedited except that some records were removed in editing temperature and salinity. There were significant problems with SBE Fluorescence data below 300db so those data were padded. For some casts extra editing was required to pad more records. The fluorometer was switched late in the cruise, but problems continued. Fluorescence data were removed from events #138-153 due to very low values that did not compare well to extracted chlorophylls samples (where available). NOTE: While the SBE fluorescence data are expressed in concentration units, they do not always compare well to extracted chlorophyll samples, particularly for casts far from shore. It is recommended that users check extracted chlorophyll values where available. The primary temperature and salinity channels were selected for most casts due to some problems in the secondary system, but the secondary channels were used for casts #46, #48 and #50 due to problems with the primary system. Salinity:T0:C0 data were recalibrated to bring them into correspondence with Salinity:T1:C1. Salinity:T1:C1 compared well with salinity samples from Niskin bottles. There were 2 WetLabs CStar transmissometers in use during this cruise: Channel Transmissometer refers to sensor #1185DR (650nm - red) Channel Transmissometer:Green refers to sensor #1883DG (530nm - green) For comparison with other Institute of Ocean Sciences cruises, note that the transmissometer wavelength is 650nm unless otherwise stated. The SBE DO sensor has a fairly long response time so data accuracy is not as high when it is in motion as it is during stops for bottles. This will be especially true when vertical DO gradients are large. To get an estimate of the accuracy of the SBE DO data during downcasts (after recalibration) a rough comparison was made between downcast SBE Dissolved Oxygen and upcast titrated samples. Some of the difference will be due to incomplete flushing of Niskin bottles and imperfect matches in levels from the two data sets as well as errors in sample analysis/collection, so the following statement likely underestimates SBE DO accuracy. Downcast (CTD files) Oxygen:Dissolved:SBE data for this cruise are considered, very roughly, to be: ±0.50 mL/L from 0 - 75db except in areas of very large DO gradients ±0.20 mL/L from 75db - 200db ±0.05 mL/L from 200db - 500db ±0.03 mL/L below 500db For details on the processing see the report: 2023-019_Processing_Report.doc. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- *CALIBRATION $TABLE: CORRECTED CHANNELS !
