CTD #0550 was used for Event #1 only. CTD #1222 was used for Events 4-91. Conductivity, Transmissivity, Fluorescence and PAR are nominal and unedited except that some records were removed in editing temperature and salinity. For Event #1 recalibration was based on the performance of the oxygen sensor during previous cruises. Recalibration of dissolved oxygen was based on a comparison with titrated samples for Events 4-91. Salinity required no recalibration. Pressure was recalibrated for Event #1. For all other events the pressure offset in the configuration file was adjusted based on results of previous cruises. The SBE DO sensor has a fairly long response time so data accuracy is not as high when it is in motion as it is during stops for bottles. This will be especially true when vertical DO gradients are large. To get an estimate of the accuracy of the SBE DO data during downcasts (after recalibration) a rough comparison was made between downcast SBE DO and upcast titrated samples. Some of the difference will be due to mismatched depths, problems with flushing of Niskin bottles or analysis errors, so the following statement likely underestimates SBE DO accuracy. Downcast (CTD files) Oxygen:Dissolved:SBE data for Events #4-91 are considered, very roughly, to be: ±0.20 mL/L from 0-50db except in areas of very large DO gradients ±0.06 mL/L from 50db-200db ±0.01 mL/L below 200db No estimate of accuracy was possible for Event #1.
