Recalibration of SBE Dissolved Oxygen data was based on a comparison of upcast SBE DO with titrated oxygen samples from a sub-set of casts. The fits from events #18, 33 and 38 looked distinctly different from earlier and later casts in the cruise and different from expectations for this type of sensor. This may be due to the unusually high temperature, salinity and dissolved oxygen variability between P5 and P12. There was some hysteresis noted below 2000m in cast #38; that was not seen in subsequent deep casts. The SBE DO sensor has a fairly long response time so data accuracy is not as high when it is in motion as it is during stops for bottles. This will be especially true when vertical DO gradients are large. To get an estimate of the accuracy of the SBE DO data during downcasts (after recalibration) a rough comparison was made between downcast SBE DO and upcast titrated samples. Some of the difference will be due to problems with flushing of Niskin bottles and/or analysis errors, so the following statement likely underestimates SBE DO accuracy.
