They were analyzed in a temperature-controlled lab on a Guildline 8400B Salinometer standardized with IAPSO standard seawater within 5 days after collection. For details, see document QF2022-003SAL*.xlsx. Nutrient samples were collected in plastic tubes and quick frozen in aluminum blocks stored in a -20C freezer. All samples were returned to the Institute of Ocean Sciences and they were analyzed using an Astoria-Pacific Analyzer following methods described in IOS Nutrient Methods (1996) Barwell-Clarke, J. and F. Whitney. For details see document QF2022-003_NUTS*.xlsx. Chlorophyll samples were filtered onto 25mm GF/F filters and stored in cryovials in liquid nitrogen onboard, then transferred to -80C storage in the lab until analysis. Samples were extracted in 90% acetone at -20C for 24 hours in the lab and analyzed on a Turner Trilogy 7200-000 fluorometer calibrated wtih commercially pure chlorophyll a standard (Sigma). Fluorescence readings taken before and after acidification were used to calculate chlorophyll and phaeopigment concentrations (Holm-Hansen et al 1965). Chlorophyll samples were analyzed at IOS in Room 2423 2 weeks after the cruise. Variability is assessed as the CV% (std dev / mean*100). Chlorophyll values ranged from 0.45-18.79 ug/l in 9 samples. Average %CV for this cruise was 2.54% from 8 duplicates with 0 duplicate pairs having a CV>10% and 0 duplicate pairs having a CV>30%. Our average dataset %CV is 3.89% for 2013 - 2021 so the overall quality of this dataset is good. Flags and comments apply to chlorophyll values only. For details see worksheet “CV%” in file QF2022-003_CHL*.xlsx. References: 1. Barwell-Clarke, J. and Whitney, F. 1996. Institute of Ocean Sciences Nutrient Methods and Analysis. CTD salinity values were higher than the 4 bottle samples below 300db by a median value of 0.008psu. That difference is likely due primarily to incomplete flushing of Niskin bottles so that samples represent conditions 10 to 20m higher in the water column where salinity is lower. No recalibration was applied to the CTD salinity. Oxygen:Dissolved:SBE values cannot be confirmed as there was no calibration sampling for dissolved oxygen. Surface saturation values varied greatly with low values in areas of active mixing, but were mostly between 95% and 105% in the central Strait of Georgia. Calibration errors for these sensors generally involve values being low by 2% to 4%. For details on the processing see document: 2022-003_Processing_Report.doc. *CALIBRATION $TABLE: CORRECTED CHANNELS !
