Samples were extracted in 90% acetone at -20C for 24 hours in the lab and analyzed on a Turner 10AU fluorometer calibrated with commercially pure chlorophyll a standard (Sigma). Fluorescence readings taken before and after acidification were used to calculate chlorophyll and phaeopigment concentrations (Holm-Hansen et al 1965). Chlorophyll samples were analyzed at IOS in Room 2423 ~1 week after the cruise. The average of two samples is reported. Variability is assessed as the CV% (std dev / mean*100). Flags and comments apply to chlorophyll values only. Precision Statement: Chlorophyll values ranged from 0.14-20.06ug/l in 53 samples. Average %CV for this cruise was an excellent 3.33% with 0 out of 50 duplicate pairs having a CV>15% and 0 out of 50 duplicate pairs having a CV>50%. Our average dataset %CV is 4% for 2013 - 2014 so the overall quality of this dataset is excellent. For details see worksheet “CV%” in file QF2015-15CHL*.xls. Salinity samples were collected in 200 mL type ll glass bottles with disposable plastic inserts and screw caps supplied by Ocean Scientific International Limited. They were analyzed in a temperature-controlled lab at IOS on a Guildline 8400B Salinometer (S/N 68572) standardized with IAPSO standard seawater 23 to 62 days after collection. For details including a duplicate analysis, see document QF2015-15SAL*.xls. Nutrient samples were collected in plastic tubes and quick frozen in aluminum blocks stored in -20 freezer. All ananlysis was performed on frozen samples. They were analyzed using an Astoria analyzer following methods described in IOS Nutrient Methods (1996) Barwell-Clarke and Whitney. CTD data were taken from the downcast at 10m due to much higher data quality during downcasts. For a few casts acquisition started late so no CTD data are available. Fluorescence and pH data are nominal and unedited except that some records were removed in editing temperature and salinity. Recalibration of channel Salinity:T0:C0 was based on a post-cruise calibration and a comparison with bottle samples. Stops for bottles were often very short and there was a cruise between this one and the post-cruise calibration, but the salinity is likely good to +/- 0.002. A dissolved oxygen sensor was mounted but no data were acquired. WARNING: The pH:SBE:Nominal data should be used with caution; no field calibration data were collected. Calibration is required for each cast to get absolute values, although general trends within a cast are likely real.
