Adjustment was made for salinity values (when available) of <= 25 psu. Adjustment equation: Silicate:Corrected = Silicate * [1+((-0.003)*(32-S))] where, Silicate:Corrected = corrected silicate concentration in micromoles/litre Silicate = uncorrected silicate concentration in micromoles/litre -0.003 = salt correction factor 32 = salt concentration of artificial seawater used by the WPG Astoria Pacific continuous flow analyser S = salinity of the sample At Station: GC-31, Sample Number: 227, Silicate corrected using CTD salinity. ===================================================================================== Comments from secondary file: P:\Cruise_Data_Processing\2015-03\Processing\hydro\2015-03-0051.mrgcln1s ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Comments from secondary file: P:\Cruise_Data_Processing\2015-03\Processing\hydro\2015-03-0051.oxy ------------------------------------------------------------------- Sample_Number 223: OXY: Niskin bottle was empty. Samples were extracted in 90% acetone at -20C for 24 hours and analyzed on a Turner 10AU fluorometer calibrated with commercially pure chlorophyll a standard (Sigma). Fluorescence readings taken before and after acidification were used to calculate chlorophyll and phaeopigment concentrations (Holm-Hansen et al 1965). Chlorophyll samples were at IOS in Room 2423 ~4 weeks after the cruise. The average of two samples is reported. Variability is assessed as the CV% (std dev / mean*100). Precision Statement: Chlorophyll values ranged from 0.10-25.09ug/L. Average %CV for this cruise was 4.0% with 1 out of 45 duplicate pairs having a CV>15% and 0 out of 45 duplicate pairs having a CV>50%. Our average dataset %CV is 4% for 2013-2014 so the overall quality of this dataset is excellent. Flags and comments apply to chlorophyll values only. No flags or comments are assigned for Phaeopigment values. For details see document QF2015-03CHL*.xls. Oxygen samples were analyzed at sea using an automated Winkler titration system (Brinkmann Dosimat model 665) for titrations, Dosimat model 865 for dispensing standards and a PC950 Colorimeter controlled by AutoOxy software V3.4) with modifications based on Carpenter (1965) and adhering to WOCE protocols (Culberson 1991). For details including a duplicate analysis, see document QF2015-03OXY*.xls. Salinity samples were collected in 200 mL type ll glass bottles with disposable plastic inserts and screw caps supplied by Ocean Scientific International Limited. They were analyzed in a temperature-controlled lab at IOS on a Guildline 8400B Salinometer standardized with IAPSO standard seawater 40 to 68 days after collection. For details see document QF2015-03SAL*.xls. Nutrient samples were collected in plastic tubes and quick frozen in aluminum blocks stored in a -20C freezer. All Analysis was performed on frozen samples. They were analyzed using an Astoria analyzer following methods described in IOS Nutrient Methods (1996) Barwell-Clarke and Whitney. For details including a duplicate analysis, see document QF2015-03nuts*.xls. References: 1. Barwell-Clarke, J. and Whitney, F. 1996. Institute of Ocean Sciences Nutrient Methods and Analysis. For details on how the transmissivity calibration parameters were calculated see the document in folder "\cruise_data\documents\transmissivity". The Oxygen:Dissolved:SBE data are considered of lower quality than usual due to likely incomplete flushing of Niskin bottles and a problem with the secondary pump that may cause poor response of the SBE sensor. Re-calibration was based on the results of cruise 2015-01 when the same sensors were used, but there remain some doubts due to the pump problem. These data should be used with caution especially in areas of large vertical DO gradients. Salinity:T0:C0 data were also recalibrated based on 2015-01 results due to concerns about the flushing of the Niskin bottles during this cruise. While this is the best available comparison, it included a lot of scatter. For details on the processing see the report: 2015-03_Processing_Report.doc. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- *CALIBRATION $TABLE: CORRECTED CHANNELS !
