Adjustment was made for salinity values (when available) of <= 25 psu. Adjustment equation: Silicate:Corrected = Silicate * [1+((-0.003)*(32-S))] where, Silicate:Corrected = corrected silicate concentration in micromoles/litre Silicate = uncorrected silicate concentration in micromoles/litre -0.003 = salt correction factor 32 = salt concentration of artificial seawater used by the WPG Astoria Pacific continuous flow analyser S = salinity of the sample At Station: 12, Sample Number: 63, Silicate corrected using CTD salinity. ===================================================================================== Sample_Number 52: OXY-1: large particle swirling in sample. Progress of titration unaffected. Sample_Number 58: OXY: Niskin vent was loose prior to sampling. Analysis methods: ----------------- Chlorophyll samples were filtered onto 25mm GF/F filters and stored in glass scintillation vials at -20C prior to analysis. Samples were extracted in 90% acetone at -20C for 24 hours in the lab and analyzed on a Turner 10AU fluorometer calibrated with commercially pure chlorophyll a standard (Sigma). Fluorescence readings taken before and after acidification were used to calculate chlorophyll and phaeopigment concentrations (Holm-Hansen et al 1965). Chlorophyll samples were analyzed at IOS in Room 2423 about 6 weeks after the cruise. The average of two samples is reported. Variability is assessed as the CV% (std dev / mean*100). For details see worksheet “CV%” in file QF2014-23CHL*.xls. Flags and comments apply to chlorophyll values only. No flags or comments are assigned for Phaeopigment values. Oxygen samples were analyzed at sea using an automated Winkler titration system (Brinkmann Dosimat model 665 for titrations, Dosimat model 865 for dispensing standards and a PC950 Colorimeter controlled by AutoOxy software V3.4) with modifications based on Carpenter (1965) and adhering to WOCE protocols (Culberson 1991). For details including a duplicate analysis, see document QF2014-23OXY*.xls. Salinity samples were collected in 200 mL type ll glass bottles with reusable silicone inserts supplied by Xiamen Cuten Accessories Industry Limited and screw caps supplied by Ocean Scientific International Limited. They were analyzed in a temperature-controlled lab on a Guildline 8400B Salinometer (S/N 68572) standardized with IAPSO standard seawater 41 to 45 days after collection. For details see document QF2014-23SAL*.xls. Nutrient samples were collected in plastic tubes and quick frozen in aluminum blocks stored in -20 freezer. All analysis was performed on frozen samples. They were analyzed using an Astoria analyzer following methods described in Barwell-Clarke and Whitney (1996). For details see document QF2014-23nuts*.xls. References: 1. For details on how the transmissivity calibration parameters were calculated see the document in folder "\cruise_data\documents\transmissivity". Dissolved oxygen was calibrated using the method described in SeaBird Application Note #64-2, June 2012 revision, except that a small offset in the fit was allowed. WARNING: The pH:SBE:Nominal data should be used with caution; no field calibration data were available at the time of processing. Calibration is required for each cast to get absolute values, although general trends within a cast are likely real. For details on the processing see the report: 2014-23-proc.doc. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- *CALIBRATION $TABLE: CORRECTED CHANNELS !
