The pump rated flow rate is 10 GPM. It supplies seawater to the forward lab, where a manifold distributes the seawater to instruments. This system allows measurements to be made of the sea surface water while underway. The water is as unaltered as possible coming into a sea-chest without marine-paint where an inlet leads to the sea-water loop. TSG Data Processing ------------------- The TSG Salinity was found to be reading lower than the CTD salinity and loop samples by about 0.11psu. A post-cruise calibration in late 2015 showed a drift downwards of about 0.018psu over 3 years ending 16 months after this cruise. Ice is not considered a factor as low-temperature areas were not included in the comparison. Mismatches in the depth of sampling may be a factor but near-surface salinity gradients are generally not large enough to explain most of the difference, and will not account for the differences from loop samples. Bubbles in the loop water may be a significant cause of low TSG salinity. TSG salinity read particularly low compared to CTD salinity when intake temperatures were below 0 degrees C, and ice particles are likely the cause of those very low values. Salinity and conductivity data were removed from several sections of file 2014-012-07-18-0000001.tob where there were large offsets in salinity that persisted for several hours. TSG Temperatures are higher than CTD temperatures at the depth of the intake by about 0.075C degrees, but the post-cruise calibration indicates no signficant drift. The differences from the CTD may be due to small differences in the depth or time of sampling and/or there might be a little heating of water near the intake. NOTE: While the CTD fluorescence data are expressed in concentration units, they do not always compare well to extracted chlorophyll samples, particularly for casts far from shore. See report 2014-012_Processing_Report.doc for more details. *CALIBRATION $TABLE: CORRECTED CHANNELS !
