Adjustment was made for salinity values (when available) of <= 25 psu. Adjustment equation: Silicate:Corrected = Silicate * [1+((-0.003)*(32-S))] where, Silicate:Corrected = corrected silicate concentration in micromoles/litre Silicate = uncorrected silicate concentration in micromoles/litre -0.003 = salt correction factor 32 = salt concentration of artificial seawater used by the WPG Astoria Pacific continuous flow analyser S = salinity of the sample At Station: FR9, Sample Number: 18, Silicate corrected using Bottle salinity. ===================================================================================== DO: ALL SAMPLES: The difference between duplicates was larger than usual and skewed, which may indicate problems in sampling protocol. The first samples are believed to be more accurate than the second, so those are reported. All DO samples are reported with only 2 decimal places based on the precision study. For more detail see tabs "notes" and "duplicates" in file QF2011-60oxy*.xls. Analysis methods: ----------------- Oxygen samples were analyzed within a week at IOS using an automated Winkler titration system (Brinkmann Dosimat model 765 and a PC950 Colorimeter controlled by AutoOxy software V3.4) with modifications based on Carpenter (1965) and adhering to WOCE protocols (Culberson 1991). For details including a duplicate analysis, see document QF2011-60oxy*.xls. Salinity samples were collected in glass bottles and analyzed on Guildline Autosal model 8400B, S/N 68572, at IOS. Salinometers are standardized with IAPSO standard seawater. Full results are in file 2011-60-sal*.xls. Nutrient samples were collected in plastic tubes. Samples were stored frozen and later analysed at IOS. An Astoria analyzer was used following methods described in Barwell-Clarke and Whitney (1996). File "QF 2011-60nuts*.xls" includes the raw data and a precision study. References: 1. Barwell-Clarke, J. and Whitney, F. 1996. Institute of Ocean Sciences Nutrient Methods and Analysis. For details on how the transmissivity calibration parameters were calculated see the document in folder "\cruise_data\documents\transmissivity". SBE DO calibration was done using the method described in the SeaBird Application NOte #64-2.
