Samples were extracted in 90% acetone for 24 hours in the lab immediately following the cruise and analyzed on a Turner 10AU flourometer calibrated with commercially pure chlorophyll a (Sigma). Fluorescence readings taken before and after acidification were used to calculate chlorophyll and phaeopigment concentrations (Holm-Hansen 1978). For details including information on precision see file 2010-36CHL.xls Oxygen samples were analyzed at sea using an automated Winkler titration system with modifications based on Carpenter (1965) and adhering to WOCE protocols (Culberson 1991). The titration system consists of a Brinkmann 665 Dosimat, a UV light source and a UV detector with a 365nm filter custom built by Scripps Institution of Oceanography. For details including details on precision, see document 2010-36oxy.xls. Salinity samples were collected in glass bottles and analyzed at sea using a Guildline Portasal (#58879) or at IOS on a Guildline model 8400B Autosal standardized with IAPSO standard seawater. See file 2010-36-salinity.xls for data for information on precision see 2010-36-salinity-duplicates.csv. Nutrient samples were collected in plastic tubes. Most samples were analyzed at sea on an Astoria-Pacific analyzer following methods described in Barwell-Clarke and Whitney (1996). Samples from Event #225 at station JF2 were frozen and analyzed after 2 weeks. For full data and details on nutrient duplicates and precision see file QF2010-36nuts.xls. References: 1. The pH:SBE channel was removed from the files because sensor performance and recalibration are being studied and are not yet considered ready for the archive. The SBE Dissolved Oxygen sensor behaved poorly for all or part of some casts with concentration values offset by approximately 0.24mL/L from the normal looking casts. Data were recalibrated by applying an offset where appropriate before applying a general recalibration. The DO data must be considered of lower quality than usual. July 2013: A correction has been applied to Nitrate_plus_Nitrite and Phosphate data from deep-water cruises analyzed at IOS between 2009 and 2012.
