Samples were extracted in 90% acetone for 24 hours and analyzed in the lab on a Turner 10AU fluorometer which is calibrated annually with commercially pure chlorophyll a (Sigma). Fluorescence readings taken before and after acidification were used to calculate chlorophyll and phaeopigment concentrations (Holm-Hansen 1965). For full results, see file "Hi Seas Salmon 2010-17Final*.xls." NOTE: Phaeopigment data are provided for information only and no quality flags are assigned to them. Salinity samples were collected in glass bottles and analyzed on Guildline Autosal model 8400B, S/N 69086, at IOS. Salinometers are standardized with IAPSO standard seawater. Full results are in file 2010-17-salinity*.xls. Nutrient samples were collected in plastic tubes and stored frozen and later analysed at IOS using an Astoria analyzer following methods described in Barwell-Clarke and Whitney (1996). CTD data were taken from the upcast at 10db. For a few casts no CTD data were available at the sampling level. Salinity has not been recalibrated. Bottle comparisons suggest that the CTD salinity may be low by about 0.008, but all samples came from around 10m where local gradients were generally high, so no recalibration has been applied.
