Variability is assessed as the % (std dev/mean*100) and samples are flagged if variability is >10%. The data may be found in file 2010-16chlarc.xls. Oxygen samples were analyzed at sea using an automated Winkler titration system (Brinkman Dosimat model 765 and a PC 950 Colorimeter) with modifications based on Carpenter (1965) and adhering to WOCE protocols (Culberson 1991). There were only 2 duplicate pairs and 1 of those was poor, so no duplicate statistics were prepared. For details see document 2010-16oxy.xls. Salinity samples were collected in glass bottles and analyzed on Guildline Autosal model 8400B, S/N 69086, at IOS. Salinometers are standardized with IAPSO standard seawater. There was 1 duplicate pair. Nutrient samples were collected in plastic tubes and stored frozen and later analysed at IOS using an Astoria-Pacific analyzer following methods described in Barwell-Clarke and Whitney (1996). File "QF2010-16nuts.xls" includes the raw data and an analysis of duplicates. References: 1. Carpenter, J.H. 1965. The Chesapeake Bay Institute Technique for the Winkler Dissolved Oxygen Method. Because so much sampling was needed at every level, two bottles were fired at each stop, but only 1 sample number was assigned. So the data in each line of the CHE files derive from two different bottle firings. Transmissometer #1005DR was calibrated in March 2008, and drifted significantly but steadily until July 2009; then a sudden shift occurred, so that maximum values between September 2009 and July 2010 were very low, ~25%/m. In August 2010 a study was made of transmissivity that led to a decision to apply corrections to all cruises between March 2008 and June 2010. The data are still considered nominal. For details see file Transmissometer 1005DR Corrections.doc in OSD_Data_Library:\Cruise_Data\DOCUMENTS The pH:SBE channel was removed from the files because sensor performance and recalibration are being studied and are not yet considered ready for the archive. PAR data were removed because all data were bad. There were many spikes in the CTD data especially during bottle firing for cast #12; editing removed many spikes, but the data quality is likely lower than usual, and this may affect the comparisons with bottles. *CALIBRATION $TABLE: CORRECTED CHANNELS !
