Chlorophyll and Phaeo-Pigments precision was determined by analyzing replicate samples drawn from one Niskin. For details see worksheet “Precision” in file QF2010-15CHL*.xls. Oxygen samples were analyzed at sea using an automated Winkler titration system with modifications based on Carpenter (1965) and adhering to WOCE protocols (Culberson 1991). The titration system consists of a Brinkmann 665 Dosimat, a UV light source and a UV detector with a 365nm filter custom built by Scripps Institution of Oceanography. For details including a duplicate analysis, see document 2010-15oxy*.xls. Salinity samples were collected in glass bottles and analyzed at IOS on a Guildline model 8400B Autosal standardized with IAPSO standard seawater. See file 2010-15-sal.xls for analysis output. For information on precision see 2010-15-sal-duplicates.xls. Nutrient samples were collected in plastic tubes. Most samples were analyzed frozen at IOS using an Astoria autoanalyzer following methods described in Barwell-Clarke and Whitney (1996). Deep silicate samples (400m and below) were analyzed cool at IOS. For full data and details on nutrient duplicates and precision see file QF2010-15nuts*.xls. Ammonia samples were analyzed fresh at sea. For full data and analysis details including a precision calculation see file QF2010-15NH4*.xls. References: 1. Carpenter, J.H. 1965. The precision of the SBE dissolved oxygen channel is difficult to estimate because the comparison with bottles was complex and noisy, but roughly, for the offshore casts DO should be considered: • ±0.4ml/l from 0-300 db • ±0.2ml/l from 300-500 db • ±0.1ml/l below 500db For details on the processing see processing report: 2010-15-proc.doc. *************************************************************************** WARNING: THE data in the OXYGEN:DISSOLVED:SBE channel is of lower quality than usual. The membrane was found to be torn when it was examined at the factory in December 2010. For this cruise it did a poor job of tracking DO in areas of high variability. The worst effects were seen between 50db and 300db in the offshore casts beyond the 200m contour. THIS WAS AN OFFSHORE CAST. *************************************************************************** In June 2011 it was discovered that the wrong information was used for conversion of the SBE Dissolved Oxygen sensor data for CTD #0443. Sensor #1483 was actually used for this cruise. The SBE Dissolved Oxygen channel was reprocessed. A new recalibration scheme was found by rerunning the bottle comparison. The files were then merged with all the other channels from the original processing. Previous warnings about the quality of the SBE Dissolved Oxygen remain valid. For details on reporcessing see the end of processing report. July 2013: A correction has been applied to Nitrate_plus_Nitrite and Phosphate data from deep-water cruises analyzed at IOS between 2009 and 2012. For details see the following report: Corrections to Nitrate and Phosphate for Deep-Water Cruises from 2009 to 2012.pdf which is stored in folder: \\Cruise_Data\DOCUMENTS\Analysis Reference Papers *CALIBRATION $TABLE: CORRECTED CHANNELS !
