Analysis methods: ----------------- Chlorophyll samples were analyzed at sea using a Chemistry Turner Designs 10AU fluorometer which was calibrated on May 13, 2009 using pure chlorophyll a. Chlorophyll precision was determined by analyzing replicate samples drawn from one Niskin. Average of two samples is reported except as noted. Flags are assigned if Variability >10% which is assessed as the % (std dev/mean*100). Oxygen samples were analyzed at sea using an automated titration system consisting of a Brinkman Dosimat (model 665) and a PC 950 Colorimeter. For information on precision see file 2009-43oxy.xls. Final Dissolved Oxygen data may not match those on rosette logs. Endpoint titers were optimized in post-processing using a best fit linear regression utility. Salinity samples were collected in glass bottles and analyzed at IOS on a Guildline model 8400B Autosal standardized with IAPSO standard seawater. There were no duplicates. There are concerns about the bottle salinity values from this cruise. Many values have been flagged because they were outliers in comparison to the CTD salinity values. While there were also some problems with the CTD salinity, these do not appear to explain these values. No problem has been noted with the Autosal. The samples were in storage for 8 months and it is possible that some samples were not sealed well enough to avoid evaporation over that period. Nutrient samples were collected in plastic tubes, stored frozen and later analyzed at IOS using an Astoria autoanalyzer following methods described in Barwell-Clarke and Whitney (1996).
