The rosette sheet associates sample #113 with Niskin #2, #114 with Niskin #3 etc, but the bottle contents do not fit that pattern. Phosphate Samples: All phosphate data for this cast are flagged “d” because new equipment caused contamination ranging from 0.07 to -0.33 uM PO4. Phosphate data were recovered by comparing to archived data below 1000m at each station and correcting accordingly. Analysis methods: ----------------- Salinity samples are collected in glass bottles and analyzed at IOS on Guildline model 8400B Autosal Salinometers which are standardized with IAPSO standard seawater. Oxygen samples are analyzed at sea on an automated Winkler titration system following the procedures of Carpenter (1965). A Brinkmann model 665 Dosimat and model PC910 Colorimeter is controlled by Visual-Basic program to titrate the oxygen samples. Nutrient samples were analyzed fresh at sea using an Astoria autoanalyzer. Chlorophyll samples are collected in calibrated polycarbonate bottles (~330ml), then filtered onto 25mm MFS GF/75 filters at <70mmHg vacuum. The filters are placed in glass scintillation vials and immediately frozen at -20ºC until analysis. The chlorophyll is extracted in 10 ml of 90% acetone for 24h at -20ºC, then brought to room temperature and the extract is decanted and measured using a Turner Designs Model 10 fluorometer, which has been calibrated with solutions of commercially prepared chlorophyll. Chlorophyll samples were analyzed on board ship. Ammonium analyses at IOS follows the methods described in: Holmes, R.M., Aminot, A., Kerouel, R., Hooker, B.A., and Peterson, B.J. 1999 A simple and precise method for measuring ammonium in marine and freshwater ecosystems.
