Not all of the casts will have all of the parameters. Cruise 2000-20 water chemistry data : "Cruise dates : July 5 - August 5, 2000" "Coastal B.C., Gulf of Alaska, Bering and Chukchi Seas" Field operations were carried out from the CCGS Sir Wilfrid Laurier Samples collected using a Seabird Carousel 12-bottle water sampler The carousel deck unit was used to trip bottles on the downcast. Dissolved Oxygen : Analyzed at onboard ship by Jane Eert using an automated version of the Micro-Winkler Technique as described in : "Carpenter, J. H., 1965. The Chesapeake Bay Institute technique for the Winkler "dissolved oxygen method, Limnol. Oceanogr., 10, 141-3. " The titration is done using a Metrohn Dosimat 665 and the end point was detected using a Brinkmann probe colorimeter PC900. The methodology is described by an internal OSAP document (Dissolved Oxygen Determination Methods and Procedures by Bernard Minkley and George Chase). No duplicate samples were taken for oxygen on this leg. Bottle salinity Samples were brought back to IOS and analyzed using a Portasal (model 8410; Serial number 59724) which was standardized using IAPSO standard seawater (P138; conductivity=0.99994; salinity=34.998). Analysis done by Doug Sieberg. No duplicate salinities were taken. "Nutrients : (silicate, nitrate plus nitrite and orthophosphate)" Samples were frozen and brought back to IOS. Analysis was done on contract by Linda White. Nutrients were analyzed using Technicon Autoanalyzer II components. Reactive silicate and nitrate plus nitrite were determined according to Technico "Industrial Methods No. 186-71 W and 158-71 W respectively, and soluble " orthophosphate was determined using a modified Technicon method as described "in : Brynjolfson, S.J., 1973. A modification of the Technicon methodology for "determination of orthophosphate in seawater, Paper presented at Water " "Resources Services, Vancouver, B.C." "The method is also described in an internal document : ""Institute of Ocean " "Sciences Nutrient Methods and Analysis"" by J. Barwell-Clarke and F Whitney " 1996. Medium check standards were run along with the samples for quality control. Most of the samples were analyzed in duplicate and pooled standard deviations were calculated as follows : Silicate: 238 samples were analyzed in duplicate "Pooled standard deviation for 238 pairs : Sp=0.10, n=238" (range for all data is 0.4 to 105.2 uM) Archived data is the average of the duplicates. Orthophosphate: 199 samples were analyzed in duplicate "Pooled standard deviation for 199 pairs : Sp=0.034, n=199 (range for all data is 0.13 to 3.21 uM) "Where possible, archived data is the average of the duplicates." There were many problems associated with the sampling technique : Many of the PO4 samples were taken in plastic tubes instead of glass. Many of the PO4 samples taken were overfilled and broke on freezing. A number of the lids were loose. "Where possible, only the data taken in glass tubes is used and the duplicate in plastic is ignored. Data not included where there is a wide discepancy between the duplicates. Nitrate plus Nitrite: 247 samples were analyzed in duplicate "Pooled standard deviation for 247 pairs: Sp=0.046, n=247 (range for all data i 0.0 to 43.0 uM) Archived data is the average of the duplicates. Oxygen isotopes : "Samples taken, data not included - contact Fiona McLaughlin for information" Total Carbon Dioxide "Samples taken, data not included - contact Lisa Miller for information" Barium Samples "Samples taken, data not included - contact Fiona McLaughlin for information" "CTD pressure, salinity and temperature " CTD data was processed by Germaine Gatien !-1-- 2- ---3--- --4--- ---5---- !Samp Bo Depth: Pressu Salinity !le_ tt Nominal re :Bottle !Numb ~u !er mb ! er !---- -- ------- ------ -------- *END OF HEADER 27 1 526. 526.9 34.0493
