"Nutrients were analyzed following procedures outlined in Barwell-Clarke and Whitney, 1996." These samples had been frozen in isopropanol immediately after collection and stored in a freezer until analyzed. The long storage time may affect the quality of the data. Most of the glass tubes showed evidence of isopropanol in the sample or extrusion of the sample due to poorly tightened lids. Therefore phosphate was sampled from the plastic tubes. Phosphate may adsorb to plastic surfaces so the data may be affected The samples were defrosted for 18-24 h at room temperature. Many samples contained small amounts of slowly dissolving crystals which are frequently seen in frozen samples. Their composition is unknown. No duplicate samples were taken nor analyzed. There was isopropanol in many of the samples. Comments from secondary file: C:\data\MELANIE\ECOLOGY\9737\97370023.ios ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Chlorophyll comments: chlorophylla=2.069 x 0.994(Fo-Fa) x (v/V) Collection method: ------------------ A rosette, holding 24 ten-litre water samplers, with a CTD was used. Analysis methods: ----------------- Salinity samples are collected in glass bottles and analyzed on Guildline model 8410 Portasal Salinometers which are standardized with IAPSO standard seawater. Oxygen samples are analyzed on an automated Winkler titration system following the procedures of Carpenter (1965). A Brinkmann model 665 Dosimat and model PC910 Colorimeter is controlled by Visual-Basic program to titrate the oxygen samples. References: 1. Carpenter, J.H. 1965.
