Temperature data 3400 to 4000 is from reversing thermometers. Data for 3200, 3400, 3600, 3800 and 4000 is depth, not pressure. Insufficient data to use pressure value from reversing thermometers. Sample collection methods: -------------------------- A General Oceanics Rosette holding 23 10 L Niskin samplers, and a Guildline Model 8737 CTD was used for routine sampling in the upper 3000 m of the wate column. Below this depth, 10 L Niskin bottles with reversing thermometers were lowered on hydro wire and tripped by messenger at selected depths. The maximum depth interval was 200 m. Samples were drawn generally in the order oxygen, TCO2, 13CO2, alkalinity, nutrients and salinity (gases always first). Analyzes methods: ----------------- Salinity determinations were made at sea with a Guildline salinometer. Accuracy using duplicate determinations is estimated to be +-0.002 ppt. The dissolved oxygen analyses were done in the shipboard laboratory by a micro-Winkler procedure of Carpenter (1965) with a starch end-point tritration. Nutrient samples were analyzed aboard ship by the use of a Technicon AutoAnalyzer using methods described in Barwell-Clarke and Whitney, 1996. Dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) was determined using coulometric analysis. . References: 1. Carpenter, J.H. 1965. The Chesapeake Bay Institute Technique for the Winkler Dissolved Oxygen Method.
