These may be associated with a `sticky' suppression step in conductivity, 6011 : The probe was malfunctioning seriously during the 2 profiles at this station (6011, 6011C). 6011C data should be disregarded, since the temperature measured by the CTD is in gross disagreement with that measured by the thermistors in the probe. 6011 has the `sticky' bit problem, and in addition shows a dramatic drop in in the conductivity ratio at about 35m depth. The profile has been truncated at this level, although the temperature measurements appear to be good to the seafloor at 52m depth. 6011 : No salinity data are available for this (troublesome) profile. However, the location is close to that of profile 6025, acquired four days later. Salinities calibrated using the value of the cell constant obtained for the preceding profile appeared too low (FTD's near -0.060 celsius!). The salinity in the surface mixed layer which would yield a FTD typical of other profiles (+0.003 celsius) is about 30.39. The mixed layer salinity for 6025 is 30.47. In the absence of any other information, it seemed reasonable to select the cell constant (1.033389) as that required to yield this surface layer salinity (30.39).
