Non-zero values have the following significance: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1 = Sample for this measurement was drawn from water bottle but not analyzed (not normally used). 2 = Acceptable measurement (not normally used). 3 = Questionable measurement (no problem observed in sampling or analysis, but value is not trusted, nonetheless; includes outlyers). 4 = Bad measurement (known problem with sampling or analysis, but not serious enough to completely discard the value). 5 = Not reported (lost sample; unredeemably bad measurement). 6 = Mean of replicate measurements. 7 = Manual chromatographic peak measurement. 8 = Irregular digital chromatographic peak integration. 9 = Sample not drawn for this measurement from this bottle (not normally used). -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This file converted from STDHYD file STDHYD86.DAT using SUStoIOS.BAS version 2.3 Sep 04/96 rmb Original HEADER: 86 2P 2650 0.00N145 0.00W86 71217 0GMT 2 4DTSO 4158 240.0H $END *ADMINISTRATION MISSION : 1986-02 AGENCY : IOS, Ocean Physics Division, Sidney, B.C. Salinity: - Collected in bottles. Dissolved Oxygen: - Collected in bottles. Reactive Nutrients (Phosphate, nitrate, silicate): - Collected in bottles Analyzes methods: ------------------------- Temperatures at depth were measured by deep-sea reversing thermometers of German (Richter and Wiese) and/or Japanese (Yoshimo Keiki Co.) manufacture. Two protected thermometers were used on all bottles, and one unprotected thermometer was used on each bottle at depths of 300 m or greater. The accuracy of protected reversing thermometers is believed to be +-0.02C. Salinity determinations were made at sea with either a Guildline Autosal salinometer. Accuracy using duplicate determinations is estimated to be +-0.003 ppt. Depth determinations were made using the "depth difference" method described in the U.S.N. Hydrographic Office Publication No. 607 (1955). Depth estimates have an approximate accuracy of +-5 m for depths less than 1000 m, and +-0.5% of depth for depths greater than 1000 m. The dissolved oxygen analyses were done in the shipboard laboratory by a modified Winkler method (Carpenter, 1965). Nutrient samples were frozen for analyzes ashore. Chlorophyll and nutrients were analyzed using methods from Bulletin 125 Fisheries Research Board of Canada 1960 "A manual of seawater analysis" J.D.H. Strickland and T.R. Parsons, and subsequent editions. References: 1. Carpenter, J.H. 1965. The Chesapeake Bay Institute Technique for the Winkler Dissolved Oxygen Method. Limmnol. & Oceanogr., 10: 141-143. 2.
