When the data were prepared for the OSD Data Archive the cruise name was changed to 1978-90 because cruise number 1978-02 was already assigned to another cruise in the archive. The data were available in document "Hydrography 7890.xlsx" which had entries for positions, time, station name, depth, bottle #, temperature, invivo fluorescence, fluorescence scale, salinity bott salinity analyst comments and extracted chlorophyll. At the surface there were usually only readings from the middle thermometers, and below that usual left and right thermometers only, but sometimes left and middle or only left. The temperature entered is the median of the all temperature entries except for cases where there clear outliers. For those there is a separate entry in the header to explain which data were used. Channel Fluorescence:URU was calculated by dividing the “invivo fluorescence” by the fluorescence This decision was based on a comparison with extracted chlorophyll which showed good agreement in middle range of values when extracted chlorophyll was between 0.2 and 0.8mg/m^3. See file FLuorescence_Study.xlsx for details. The original hydrodata sheets from sea, including times, positions, temperatures, salinity, fluorescence and fluorescence scale were found for only the first 2 stations. No other original re were found. The 2 sheets available confirm the values entered in the spreadsheet.
