AYP LEE In situ checks of the temperature and conductivity sensor were obtained by putting a Niskin water sampling bottle with reversing thermometers on the probe cable, one metre above the probe. Temperature calibration checks were acceptable given the +-0.02 degree C accuracy of the reversing thermometers. A stable salinity offset of 0.04 ppt (sample standard deviation of 0.01 ppt based on over 50 calibrations samples) was noted in these calibrations over the 32 month duration of the survey program. In the subsequent processing of the data, salinity is corrected by subtracting this offset.
