    Sample collection methods:
    Sea Water Temp
    -  reversing thermometers mounted on Nansen samplers
    Salinity
    - Collected in Nansen samplers
    Dissolved Oxygen
    - Collected in Nansen samplers
    Reactive Nutrients (Phosphate, nitrate, silicate)
    - Collected in Van Dorn samplers(productivity casts) or Nansen
    bottles (hydrographic casts). Surface nutrients were collected via a
    seawater loop line.

    -  Shipboard reading of reversing thermometers
    Salinity
    - Salinity determination were made at sea and ashore on Cruise 70-08
    using an AutoLab Model 601 Mark III inductive Salinometer and on Cruise
    70-09 a Bissett-Berman Model 6220 Lab Salinometer was used at sea.
    Dissolved Oxygen
    - Shipboard analysis- modified Winkler method (Strickland and Parsons, 1968)
    Nutrients
    - Samples were both analyzed fresh and frozen for later analysis on shore.
