    Observed photosynthesis, milligrams carbon per cubic meter per hour.
    Samples were taken from the surface and from five depths corresponding
    to the transmission of light by a graded series of neutral density
    filters. The samples were incubated in daylight under simulated in situ
    conditions for the period local noon to 1800 hours.
