Chlorphyll and Productivity samples were Collected in Van Dorn samplers. Analyzes methods: ----------------- The salinity determinations were made on an Auto-Lab inductive salinometer (Model 601 MK III) and are considered to have an accuracy of +/- 0.003 0/00 (Brown and Hamon, 1961). Salinity samples were analysed on board ship. The values are the means of duplicate determinations whose "conductivity ratio" fell within an acceptable range. Chlorophyll a, milligrams per cubic meter, determined by the method given in Bull. #125, Fish. Res. Bd. of Canada, 1960. Observed photosynthesis, milligrams carbon per cubic meter per hour. Samples were taken from the surface and from five depths corresponding to the transmission of light by a graded series of neutral density filters.
