Temperatures were obtained, when possible, with paired reversing thermometers (accuracy ±0.01 C). Surface temperatures were measured in a bucket with a standard surface thermometer(accuracy ±0.1 C). Salinity was determined on a salinometer at the base laboratory. The salinity data have an accuracy of ±0.01 PPT.
