Contents: Cast data from Weathership program using ships C.G.S. "St. Catharines" and C.G.S. "Stonetown" from Vancouver Island, BC, Canada to Ocean Weather Station P [50N x 145W] Sample collection methods: Sea Water Temp reversing thermometers mounted on Reversing Bottle samplers Salinity collected in Reversing Bottle samplers Dissoved Oxygen Collected in Reversing Bottle samplers Sample analyses methods: Sea Water Temp: Shipboard reading of reversing thermometers Salinity: Shore lab analyses. A modified Mohr titration method was used. Dissolved Oxygen: Shipboard analyses. A modified Winkler method was employed, using 125 ml. samples. Inorganic Phosphate: Shipboard analyses. One hundred ml. samples were drawn in 125 ml. bottles and brought to room temperature. The method of Robinson and Thompson (1948) was employed. Inorganic Nitrate: Shipboard analyses. Analyses were done on 1 ml. sample using reduced strychnine method as modified by by Marvin (1955). Inorganic Nitrite: Shipboard analyses. Analyses were done on a 50 ml. sample according to the method of Bendschneider and Robinson (1952). pH: Shipboard analyses. Measurements were made with a Beckman model G meter. Alkalinity: Shipboard analyses. The method of Anderson (1946) was used. The pH of a 100 ml. seawater sample to which 25 ml. of 0.01 N hydrochloric acid had been added was determined and used to calculate the milli-equivalents of hydrogen ion neutralized by one liter of sea water at a temperature of 20 degrees C.
