Samples Number 225 and 227: ALK:Bottle - high outlier, inconsistent with DIC:Bottle and pH:Bottle. Sample Number 236: Bottle Number 17 - spigot open. Samples Number 237, 238, 241, 242: ALK:Bottle - suspect calibration. Sample Number 238: SAL:Bottle - salt on bottle neck; outlier in COMPARE but CTD salinity was fairly noisy so maybe not significant. Sample Number 239: SAL:Bottle - outlier in COMPARE; OXY:Bottle - possibly wrong flask ID but looks ok in COMPARE. Sample Number 241: Bottle Number 22 - leaky. Analysis methods: ----------------- Salinity samples were collected in glass bottles and analyzed at IOS on a Guildline model 8400B Autosal standardized with IAPSO standard seawater. See file 2010-001_SAL.pdf for information on precision and duplicates. Oxygen samples were analyzed at sea using an automated Winkler titration system with modifications based on Carpenter (1965). The titration system consisted of a Brinkman Dosimat (model 665) and a PC 900 Colorimeter. For details on duplicate analysis see document 2010-001_OXY.pdf. Nutrient samples were collected in plastic tubes and analyzed fresh at sea using an Astoria autoanalyzer following methods described in Barwell-Clarke and Whitney (1996). For duplicates and precision see file 2010-001_NUT.pdf. Chlorophyll and Phaeo-Pigments samples were analyzed at sea using a Chemistry Turner Designs 10AU fluorometer which was calibrated on May 12, 2009 using pure chlorophyll a. Chlorophyll precision was determined by analyzing replicate samples drawn from one Niskin. Phaeopigment data are provided for information only and no quality flag are assigned to them. For details on duplicates see file 2010-001_CHL.pdf. The minimum detectable level for DMS is 0.10 nM, so “0” values should be interpreted as <0.10. For details on the collection and analysis of the DMS data see file 2010-001_DMS_report.pdf and for duplicates see 2010-001_DMS.pdf. The minimum detectable level for DMSP is 0.10 nM, so “0” values should be interpreted as <0.10. For details on analysis see document 2010-001_DMS_report.pdf. Dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) was determined using coulometric analysis. Total alkalinity (Alk) was determined by potentiometric titration. pH on the total hydrogren ion concentration scale was determined photometrically and is reported at 25C and surface pressure. For duplicates and precision of DIC, ALK and pH samples see files 2010-001_DIC.pdf, 2010-001_ALK.pdf, and 2010-001_pH.pdf respectively. HPLC samples were filtered onto 47mm GF/F filters and stored at -80C prior to analysis. Samples were extracted in 95% methanol at -20C for 24 hours and analyzed on a WATERS 2695 HPLC separations system as detailed in Nemcek and Pena, 2014. Analysis was performed ~3 months after collection. The average of two samples is reported. Variability is assessed as the %CV (std dev/mean*100) for duplicate pairs. All pigments below the limit of detection (LOD) are assigned a zero value. TChl-a is the sum of Chl-a, DVchl-a, Chlide-a and Me-chlide. References: 1. Carpenter, J.H. 1965. Data Processing Notes: ---------------------- Transmissometer #1005DR was calibrated in March 2008, and drifted significantly but steadily until July 2009; then a sudden shift occurred, so that maximum values between September 2009 and July 2010 were very low, ~25%/m. In August 2010 a study was made of transmissivity that led to a decision to apply post-processing corrections to all cruises between March 2008 and June 2010. Transmissivity data from this cruise were corrected by multiplying the original values by correction factor 2.26, which was based on the assumption that deep offshore transmissivity should be about 62%/m. For details on the transmissometer post-processing see: Transmissometer_1005DR_Corrections.pdf. These data should still be considered nominal. Fluorescence data were removed because of severe problems with spikes and higher than usual values at depth suggesting problems with the cable. The data may be obtained from the chief scientist. For details on the processing see processing report: 2010-001-proc.pdf NOTE: July 2013: A correction has been applied to Nitrate_plus_Nitrite:Bottle and Phosphate:Bottle data from deep-water cruises analyzed at IOS between 2009 and 2012. For details see the report: Corrections_to_Nitrate_and_Phosphate_Data_2009-2012.pdf $REMARKS Quality flags have the following significance: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 0 = Acceptable measurement with no header comment. 1 = Sample for this measurement was collected but not analyzed.
