Sample Number 3: All samples - air leak maybe from valve. Sample Number 11: All samples - Niskin Bottle 11 did not close. Samples Number 1 to 10: Oxygen:Dissolved:Bottle - flags explained in Analysis methods below. Analysis methods: ----------------- Chlorophyll samples were analyzed at sea using a Chemistry Turner Designs 10AU fluorometer which was calibrated on May 13, 2009 using pure chlorophyll a. Chlorophyll precision was determined by analyzing replicate samples drawn from one Niskin. For details see file 2009-10_CHL.pdf. Oxygen samples were analyzed at sea using an automated titration system consisting of a Brinkman Dosimat (model 765) and a PC 950 Colorimeter. For information on precision see file 2009-10_OXY.pdf. The thiosulphate titer of 0.709 obtained during standardization was low and out of range leading to a suspected overestimate in Oxygen:Dissolved:Bottle value of ~2.5%. This is believed to be due to either a bad batch of standard or incorrect calibration parameters (temperature or volume dispensed). Comparison to the Oxygen:Dissolved:CTD data confirmed the likely Oxygen:Dissolved: Bottle data overestimate using the original 0.709 titer. The Oxygen:Dissolved:Bottle data were thus recalculated using the mean thiosulfate titer for the year (0.721). Recalculated results are consistent with a post-cruise calibration of the Oxygen:Dissolved:CTD sensor. All samples are flagged "4" since the data are considered to be of lower quality than usual. Salinity samples were collected in glass bottles and analyzed at IOS on a Guildline model 8400B Autosal standardized with IAPSO standard seawater. Samples from two casts were analyzed at sea on a Guildline Portasal; there are comments attached to those samples and all were flagged "4". See file 2009-10_SAL.pdf for information on Autosal precision. Nutrient samples were collected in plastic tubes and analyzed fresh at sea using an Astoria Pacific autoanalyzer following methods described in Barwell-Clarke and Whitney (1996). For details on nutrient duplicates and precision see file 2009-10_NUT.pdf. NOTE: July 2013: A correction has been applied to Nitrate_plus_Nitrite:Bottle and Phosphate:Bottle data from deep-water cruises analyzed at IOS between 2009 and 2012. For details see the report: Corrections_to_Nitrate_and_Phosphate_Data_2009-2012.pdf. The minimum detectable level for DMS is 0.10 nM, so “0” values should be interpreted as <0.10. For details on the collection and analysis of the DMS data see file 2009-10_DMS_report.pdf. For duplicates see file 2009-10_DMS.pdf. References: 1. Carpenter, J.H. 1965.
