Portasal values were recalibrated by subtracting 0.011 to match the Autosal results. Analysis methods: ----------------- Chlorophyll samples were analyzed at sea using a Chemistry Turner Designs 10AU fluorometer which was calibrated on May 12, 2009 using pure chlorophyll a. Chlorophyll precision was determined by analyzing replicate samples drawn from one Bottle. For details see file 2009-09_CHL.pdf. Oxygen samples were analyzed at sea using an automated titration system consisting of a Brinkman Dosimat (model 665) and a PC 950 Colorimeter. For information on precision see file 2009-09_OXY.pdf. Salinity samples were collected in glass bottles and analyzed at IOS on a Guildline model 8400B Autosal standardized with IAPSO standard seawater. Samples from some casts were analyzed at sea on a Guildline Portasal; there are comments attached to those samples and all were flagged "4". See file 2009-09_SAL.pdf for information on Autosal precision. Nutrient samples were collected in plastic tubes and analyzed fresh at sea using an Astoria autoanalyzer following methods described in Barwell-Clarke and Whitney (1996). For details on nutrient duplicates and precision see file 2009-09_NUT.pdf. NOTE: July 2013: A correction has been applied to Nitrate_plus_Nitrite:Bottle and Phosphate:Bottle data from deep-water cruises analyzed at IOS between 2009 and 2012. For details see the report: Corrections_to_Nitrate_and_Phosphate_Data_2009-2012.pdf. The minimum detectable level for DMS is 0.10 nM, so “0” values should be interpreted as <0.10. For details on the collection and analysis of the DMS data see file 2009-09_DMS_Report.pdf. For information on duplicates see file 2009-09_DMS.pdf. References: 1. Carpenter, J.H. 1965. In August 2010 a study was made of transmissivity that led to a decision to apply post-processing corrections to all cruises between March 2008 and June 2010. Transmissivity data from this cruise were corrected by multiplying the original values by a correction factor, which was based on assumptions that deep offshore transmissivity from a June 2009 cruise should be about 62%/m and that drift was linear with time between March 2008 and July 2009. The corrections produced reasonable results for all cruises in that time period. For details on how the correction factor was derived see: Transmissometer_1005DR_Corrections.pdf These data should be considered estimates. ****************************************************************************** For details on the processing see processing report: 2009-09-proc.pdf NOTE: July 2013: A correction has been applied to Nitrate_plus_Nitrite:Bottle and Phosphate:Bottle data from deep-water cruises analyzed at IOS between 2009 and 2012.
