Samples from two casts were analyzed at sea on a Guildline Portasal; there are comments attached to those samples and all were flagged 4. For details on duplicate analysis see file 2009-010_SAL.pdf. Oxygen samples were analyzed at sea using an automated titration system consisting of a Brinkman Dosimat (model 765) and a PC 950 Colorimeter. The thiosulphate titer of 0.709 obtained during standardization was low and out of range leading to a suspected overestimate in Oxygen:Dissolved:Bottle value of ~2.5%. This is believed to be due to either a bad batch of standard or incorrect calibration parameters (temperature or volume dispensed). Comparison to the SBE Dissolved Oxygen sensor confirmed the likely DO overestimate using the original 0.709 titer. The data were thus recalculated using the mean thiosulfate titer for the year (0.721). Recalculated results are consistent with a post-cruise calibration of the SBE Dissolved Oxygen sensor. All samples are flagged 4 since the data are considered to be of lower quality than usual. For details on duplicate analysis see document 2009-010_OXY.pdf. Nutrient samples were collected in plastic tubes and analyzed fresh at sea using an Astoria Pacific autoanalyzer following methods described in Barwell-Clarke and Whitney (1996). Chlorophyll samples were analyzed at sea using a Chemistry Turner Designs 10AU fluorometer which was calibrated on May 13, 2009 using pure chlorophyll a. Chlorophyll precision was determined by analyzing replicate samples drawn from one Niskin. For details on duplicates see file 2009-010_CHL.pdf. The minimum detectable level for DMS is 0.10 nM, so “0” values should be interpreted as <0.10. DMSP: All sample data were discarded due to blank contamination problems. For details on analysis see document 2009-010_DMS_report.pdf. HPLC samples were filtered onto 47mm GF/F filters and stored at -80C prior to analysis. Samples were extracted in 95% methanol at -20C for 24 hours and analyzed on a WATERS 2695 HPLC separations system as detailed in Nemcek and Pena, 2014. Analysis was performed ~4 months after collection. The average of two samples is reported. Variability is assessed as the %CV (std dev/mean*100) for duplicate pairs.
