Chlorophyll precision was determined by analyzing replicate samples drawn from one Niskin. For details see file 2008-26_CHL.pdf. Oxygen samples were analyzed on an automated Winkler titration system following the procedures of Carpenter (1965). Samples were analyzed at sea using an automated titration system consisting of a Brinkman Dosimat (model 665) and a PC 900 Colorimeter. For duplicate analysis see file 2008-26_OXY.pdf. Salinity samples were collected in glass bottles and analyzed on a Guildline model 8400B Autosal or a Guildline Portasal 8410A. Salinometers are standardized with IAPSO standard seawater. See file 2008-26_SAL.pdf for information on precision, and note the warning given below. Nutrient samples were collected in plastic tubes and analyzed fresh at sea using a Technicon AAII autoanalyzer following methods described in Barwell-Clarke and Whitney (1996). For details on nutrient duplicates and precision see file 2008-26_NUT.pdf. The minimum detectable level for DMS is 0.10 nM, so “0” values should be interpreted as <0.10. Many duplicate samples were run using an Autosal at IOS and the Portasal. The results showed that the Portasal read much lower than the Autosal for those samples analyzed on the Portasal on June 5th. For other days the Portasal was low by an average of 0.0016 but there was a lot of noise in the comparison with many values within 0.001 of the Autosal, while others looked unstable. Autosal values have been selected for Salinity:Bottle where possible. Where there are no Autosal values, the Portasal values were used, but were all flagged 3, except for those from June 5th which have been flagged 4. ********************************************************************************** Transmissivity, fluorescence and PAR are nominal and unedited except that some records were removed in editing temperature and salinity. The Salinity:Practical:CTD data were recalibrated based on a comparison with samples analyzed at IOS on an Autosal. Other samples run at sea on a Portasal appear unreliable based on a study of duplictes run on the two salinometers.
